By the time we’re finished on New Year’s Eve we will have played 62 gigs in 2011, so you’d think we’d have a few stories to tell. Well… we have. From playing at our first 60th birthday party, only to go on to play at our first 80th birthday party, it was the year where we pushed ourselves further than ever before. One of Passman’s most epic moments was when he gave himself a black eye by literally kneeing himself in his own face during a performance of Black Hole Sun.
And I still can’t believe that this actually happened:
A long story, but basically to avoid hyperthermia me, Passman and Dave (film-maker) had to strip off our wet clothes and take refuge from a thunderstorm in a women’s toilet in Frome (they don’t have hairdryers in men’s toilets). It’s a great story actually, but we don’t have time here – maybe it’ll be made it into a movie one day.
Other highlights include seeing our first hedluv + passman tribute act, finishing our long-awaited album We Came Here Not For Gold, and playing in St Just Town Hall… NOT Village Hall. But this year’s highlight, without a shadow of a doubt, goes to the birth of my daughter Zevi – who appropriately kept us all waiting 2 weeks past her due date!
So all in all a good year. We look forward to 2012, and according to projections it’s going to be even better.
It’s been a heck of a good year, and we’d just like to thank everyone who made this possible – and as a token of our thanks we’re giving away this 14 track live album as a free download. It was recorded at Miss Peapod’s on the 19th of February by Barnaby Ray for flyingtracks, so the quality of the recording is excellent… Not sure if we can say the same thing about some of the performance though, but that’s just the hedluv + passman experience. Anyway, we think you’ll enjoy listening to this – we certainly did! Have a great Christmas x

It’s that time of year again when we urge you to buy our age old Christmas single, Christmas Rappin’. It’s available on iTunes and amazon… Yule find it amongst Kurtis Blow and Beat Master Meat – turns out it wasn’t that original a name. Either that or we stole it. I can’t remember now. Anyway, the video has been causing a bit of a ‘stir’ of late. No, we weren’t on MTV – but who cares, it’s all hype innit.
“Hedluv + Passman – We Came Here Not For Gold
I said in my last live review of Cornwall’s hysterical bedroom rappers that no matter how brilliant they are on stage, you’d never want to own the albums.
Well that’s plain tosh, obviously. This latest offering is the usual mix of cool cred-damning lyrics about going to mum’s for a Sunday roast, drinking Tetley tea and doing everything dreckly. Musically, it’s old school electronics with crucial melodies thrown in without a thought.
We all know how funny they are but buried within some of these tunes is a tale of heroism as the pair battle to move up from Cornish fetes and get their sound heard further afield – and actually make a living (apart from selling sarnies in M&S). Beastie Boys meets Hollyoaks down Lanner ways….” Lee Trewhela, The West Briton. 17/11/2011 pg. 60
‘The Future!’ was filmed on the streets of Truro, Penzance and Falmouth, so look out for people you know – or even yourselves (Jamie Boyd and Scott Noskills!). It took 1 day to film and 1 day to edit and 400 days to rest in between…
Similar story behind this one too. ‘Dreckly’ was filmed and finished in true dreckly fashion to say the least. In it there are a couple of shots that we blew the budget on (the ones where we’re walking towards the camera) – please enjoy these!
Cornish Casio rap may sound like an ironic tag that some underachieving smalltown wise-guys would conjure up to describe their artless racket but in the case of Hedluv + Passman it is literal, and bloody brilliant. ‘We Came Here Not For Gold’ perfectly showcases their ability to combine kitchen-sink non-drama, perky samples and pure old school Casio beats to great effect, with Passman’s rapping bordering on goofy genius. Anyone who’s seen them live will know that the duo are a visual and aural delight, like Money Mark choreographed by Darwin Deez. ‘Dreckly’ is the pick of the bunch here: an ode to the simple life, and colloquial peculiarities, on Cornwall’s not-so mean streets. So, no Boredmasters for us this year… and our headline slot at Holifair was snatched from our grasp by the ‘Busketeers’, who made an unscheduled performance after us… oh well. The 80th Birthday Party was good! Tinker from Lovejoy was there.

Barnfest, Truro. October 1st. MORE INFO
In other news, on Wednesday we performed at the legendary Treloan campsite in front of TV cameras! For a moment there it looked like we might make it into a new ITV documentary about people working in Cornwall over the summer, until Passman stripped down to his Golden Codpiece. Apparently it’s a family show…
